Good Friday Agreement United States
The result of these referendums was a large majority in both parts of Ireland in favour of the agreement. In the Republic, 56% of the electorate voted, 94% of the vote voted in favour of the revision of the Constitution. The turnout was 81% in Northern Ireland, with 71% of the vote for the agreement. But U.S. spokeswoman Nancy Pelosi said there was «no chance» that a trade deal between Britain and the United States would go through the U.S. Congress if Britain violated international agreements, undermining the Good Friday agreement. The overall result of these problems was to undermine trade unionists` confidence in the agreement exploited by the anti-DUP agreement, which eventually overtook the pro-agreement Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) in the 2003 general elections. UUP had already resigned from the executive in 2002 following the Stormontgate scandal, in which three men were indicted for intelligence gathering. These charges were eventually dropped in 2005 because persecution was not «in the public interest.» Immediately afterwards, one of Sinn Féin`s members, Denis Donaldson, was unmasked as a British agent. The agreement came after many years of complex discussions, proposals and compromises. A lot of people have made a great contribution.
Tony Blair and Bertie Ahern were the leaders of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland at the time. The presidency was chaired by U.S. Special Envoy George Mitchell. President Trump`s understanding of the history and conflict in Northern Ireland is not the first mistake he appears to have made with regard to the island. Nor did he seem to realize that Ireland is not in the UK at a press conference with former Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar, «One of the reasons why the UK basically… He has the limit, he has very strong limits, and they do a very good job. They don`t have much (COVID-19) infection at that time and I hope they will hold it that way,» the president told a confused Varadkar who was in the White House before St. Patrick`s Day. In addition to the number of signatories [Note 1], Stefan Wolff identifies the following similarities and differences between the subjects discussed in the two agreements: Paisley, whose Father Ian Paisley Snr denounced the Good Friday Agreement as «the mother of all traitors,» has said in the past that he and the current president were «good friends» and had previously been invited to the White House as friends. President Trump is not believed to be the «personal friend» who funded Mr. Paisley`s $4,000 vacation in the Maldives, a «gift» he did not have to explain to the parliamentary authorities who raised their eyebrows. MP Richard Neal, a long-time spokesman for Irish interests, is part of this Irish leadership.
He is chairman of the influential Ways and Means Committee in Congress, which will take into account all trade deals between the US and Britain after Brexit. He also recently reiterated his view that «any trade agreement between the United States and Great Britain must respect the Good Friday agreement.» The current U.S. House of Representatives spokeswoman, Democratic colleague, The Catholic critic and staunchly of President Trump, Nancy Pelosi, added in a statement to the Irish Times in September that Britain «must abide by the Northern Ireland Protocol assigned to the EU to guarantee the free movement of goods across the border.» The participants in the agreement were composed of two sovereign states (the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland), with armed forces and police forces involved in the riots.
